Almost a year after it went into full effect, compliance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation still presents challenges, including monitoring data in a decentralized environment, says Subhajit Deb, CISO at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, a multinational pharmaceutical company based in India.

"One of the major challenges regarding the implementation of GDPR was the initial auditing of the system," Deb says in an interview with Information Security Media Group. "For today's IT infrastructure or the ecosystem, a lot of it is hybrid. You do not have everything under your direct control or in your data systems or your data centers."

Deb will be a featured speaker at ISMG's Fraud and Breach Summit in Bengaluru on May 21, where he will address GDPR compliance challenges.

In this interview (see audio link below image), Deb also discusses:

  • The impact of GDPR on firms across the world;
  • Key compliance challenges;
  • The need to rethink security budgets.

Before he became CISO at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Deb was CISO at Max Life Insurance. He has also managed global information security at Bank of America and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. Deb has more than 16 years of experience in leading and managing global information security, business continuity, risk management and data privacy programs.
