DDoS attacks have been rising significantly as a mechanism of wreaking havoc on unsuspecting internet targets. These are driven by a variety of reasons including brand or reputation damage, diversionary tactics, geo-political tensions or even extortion. Further due to the vast multiplication of IoT systems, the population of devices available for malicious attackers to act as a launch pad of attacks has also greatly increased - the result of which are the excessively large volume attacks. The time has come to look afresh at the approach to handle these attacks and shift the stages of attack handling and mitigation to reduce the intensity and impact of these attacks before they assume virulent proportions. This session shall help to elucidate some techniques and measures like threat intelligence, that can be combined to achieve more effective levels of mitigation.
