Profiles in Leadership: Virag ThakkarInformation Security Officer Discusses Privacy, Compliance and the Metaverse
How will privacy and compliance requirements and the approach to them change as the world moves towards the metaverse? (Add something about what the metaverse is.) Virag Thakkar, information security officer, APAC, at Allianz Partners shares his views and discusses how security and privacy requirements have evolved.
"In the metaverse world, when you visit a virtual bank, how do you know it is a genuine bank? How do you identify that? As of now, all awareness mechanisms for privacy and identity are built for the real world. In the metaverse world, there will be an avatar and you don’t know what is real. So privacy challenges will be different, and existing controls will not work," Thakkar says.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, as part of the CyberEdBoard's ongoing Profile in Leadership series, Thakkar also discusses:
- How to meet different privacy compliance needs?
- Steps for cybersecurity awareness beyond training;
- How security and privacy requirements have evolved.
Thakkar is information security officer, APAC, at Allianz Partners. He has 2 0+ years of leadership experience in cyber and information security covering audit compliance, privacy frameworks, risk management and establishing security operations.
