Aseem Ahmed, senior product manager, Cloud Security- APJ at Akamai Technologies

Because APIs are an attractive target for hackers, organizations need to make API security a higher priority, says Aseem Ahmed, senior product manager, cloud security, Asia Pacific and Japan, at Akamai Technologies.

“One of the major challenges for organizations is a lack of visibility of existing API service. You really can't implement security measures if you do not know what you are protecting,” Ahmed says.

“The second challenge is most organizations still have not prioritized API security. People do not realize that APIs bring about different security challenges - hence using traditional measures is not helpful.”

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Ahmed also discusses:

  • How to implement a hands-on solution for API security;
  • How organizations can better protect their applications and APIs;
  • Why web skimming attacks are increasing.

Ahmed is responsible for identifying market opportunities in cloud security, translating ideas into product requirements, gathering and consolidating customer feedback, evangelizing product vision and strategy, as well as overseeing aspects of the product design and development lifecycle while partnering with cross-functional teams on go-to-market activities. He has more than 10 years of experience in security services and consulting. Previously, he has worked in technical roles at Microsoft and Convergys.
