This edition of the ISMG Security Report leads with news that several senior staff members at the White House are facing criticism - and legal questions - because they had been using a private Republican National Committee email server. (The RNC didn't respond to a request for comment on that report.)

In the ISMG Security Report, you'll also hear (click on player beneath image):

  • ISMG Security and Technology Editor Jeremy Kirk discuss the Australian government's plans to educate political parties on improving cybersecurity to help ward of election-related hacks;
  • Gartner analyst Avivah Litan describe the evolution of endpoint security technology;
  • An update about a hacker issuing a security alert to President Donald Trump, warning that his Twitter account - as well accounts used by some senior advisers and his wife - are at risk of being taken over.

The ISMG Security Report appears on this and other ISMG websites on Tuesdays and Fridays. Be sure to check out our Jan. 20 and Jan. 24 reports, which respectively analyze former President Barack Obama's cybersecurity legacy and comments from President Trump that suggest the U.S. military will take the lead in defending civilian-owned critical infrastructure. The next ISMG Security Report will be posted on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
