Dan Schiappa of Sophos on Improving Endpoint Detection and Response
Responding to Blended Cyberattacks

Typically, organizations see automated or manual attacks - one type or the other. But increasingly cyberattackers are striking with blended attacks, and the growth and impact of these strikes is concerning. Dan Schiappa of Sophos discusses how to improve detection and defense.

"This is a typical playbook you'd see from nation-state attackers," says Schiappa, executive vice president and chief product officer at Sophos. "But now we're seeing it happening from every-day, typical cybercriminals."

And once the attackers use automation and manual techniques to breach a network, often they head straight to their target: the server.

"They are finding the server is really the jackpot - that's where all the really valuable information is, and that's where they can conduct the most cybercrime."

In an interview about blended cyberattacks, Schiappa discusses:

  • The latest Sophos research;
  • How ordinary cybercriminals now have the same tools as nation-state attackers;
  • How Sophos is helping organizations detect and stop these attacks.

Schiappa is executive vice president and chief product officer at Sophos. In this role, he is responsible for the overall product strategy, product management, architecture, research and development, product quality and release plans, including recent innovations in next-generation endpoint and firewall products.
