Fighting Risks Inherent in the 'Work From Anywhere' World

CEO Elizabeth Harz on the Need to Talk to Remote Employees About Avoiding Breaches
Elizabeth Harz, CEO of Awareness Technologies and the Veriato workforce behavior analytics platform

Hybrid and remote work are here to stay, and that raises the cost of a breach by $1 million on average, said Elizabeth Harz, CEO of Awareness Technologies and the Veriato workforce behavior analytics platform. It's a "work from anywhere" world, she said, and the way to get security cooperation from employees is to talk about the inherent risks.

Harz referenced studies showing that employees respond better to having their work behavior monitored when they know why it is being done and get to hear success stories about how it helps prevent breaches.

In fact, according to Harz, a survey showed that employees trust technology to monitor them more than they trust people - because they think people might have biases that technology doesn't have.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2023, Harz also discusses:

  • The need to use a workforce behavior analytics platform such as Veriato to obtain a baseline of employees' work behaviors;
  • Breaches that can result from accidental, nonmalicious employee behavior - and how making employees aware of such behavior can prevent such incidents;
  • The advantages of having a trusted partner such as Awareness Technologies for sharing best practices and risk-scoring methods.

Harz, CEO of Awareness Technologies, is a network leader and adviser, and she helps develop leading security and productivity solutions for the home and office. Prior to Awareness Technologies, she was the CEO of Sittercity.
