Enterprises are facing critical decisions about integrating AI into their security operations, with privacy and safety emerging as the primary concerns. While the technology enhances capabilities through LLMs and natural language interfaces, organizations need clear guidelines and frameworks to implement AI responsibly, said Anand Raghavan, vice president of engineering - AI, Cisco.

Organizations must balance the advantages of AI-powered security with the need to protect sensitive information and maintain compliance. This has led to increased focus on developing comprehensive responsible AI frameworks that address both security and privacy concerns while ensuring regulatory compliance.

"The top two concerns we usually hear - number one is, 'I need to understand this more to know how to use this.' So, awareness is still a problem. Number two concern is around privacy and safety, 'I want to make sure that if I use these LLMs to provide better experiences to my customers, I'm not losing data,'" Raghavan said. "Across the world, organizations and governments are releasing [AI safety and security] guidelines … That's a very critical part of this so that allows enterprises and organizations to understand what guardrails do they need to have in place to be able to use generative AI more wisely."

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at the GovWare Conference and Exhibition 2024, Raghavan also discussed:

  • The four essential guardrails for AI implementation: safety, security, privacy and relevance;
  • Why platformization benefits AI-driven security more than multi-vendor approaches;
  • How responsible AI frameworks help maintain compliance and customer trust.

Raghavan has extensive experience in engineering and product development. He leads the integration of AI technologies into cybersecurity solutions. He has nearly 25 years of experience and expertise in enhancing enterprise security using innovative, automated processes.
