Draws & Drawbacks: Revisiting the Common Password Manager
Issues with passwords are legion: too many to remember; inherent security weaknesses, and inconvenience, but while many look forward to the day when passwords are no more, for now they are ubiquitous because they are useful, and one of the best ways to enhance their security is through the use of a password manager.
Password managers store multiple passwords in one place, but they are not all are the same, using different encryptions, stored in the cloud or not, autoinjection of passwords, or not, and different approaches to who holds the encryption keys. Many are designed for use by individuals rather than enterprise-use, and may lack the ability to audit and ensure regulatory compliance to have visibility of who is using what, for what purpose.
