Cloud security strategies often suffer from several fundamental flaws as many cloud providers still maintain outdated cybersecurity practices that increase business risk, said Angel Redoble, chairman and founding president of the Philippine Institute of Cyber Security Professionals.

Many cloud providers still rely solely on firewalls and other traditional approaches. "You're essentially putting your crown jewels in someone else's house, but you're not allowed to secure that house yourself," Redoble said.

Many organizations make the mistake of focusing on compliance and meeting regulatory requirements. "You can be compliant for one month during audit time but open and vulnerable for the remaining 11 months," he said, pointing out that good governance and consistent cybersecurity practices help ensure long-term protection.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Redoble also discussed:

  • Critical gaps in cloud security strategies across industries;
  • How cloud providers' approaches to security affect customer risk;
  • The importance of governance frameworks for robust cloud security.

Redoble, who is the founding president of the Philippine Institute of Cyber Security Professionals, previously served as first vice president responsible for cybersecurity at PLDT Group, Smart Communications and ePLDT Group.
