APIs pose a particular risk to organizations where traveling data causes them to be exposed, and API abuse is slated to become one of the most common types of web application data breaches. Benzaquen says it's important to ensure that customers understand API attacks well, and Checkmarx has put all of its application security tools in one place to ensure they communicate and correlate with one another (see: Synopsys, Checkmarx Top Gartner MQ for App Security Testing).
"It comes back to innovation and research," Benzaquen says. "If you don't do research and you don't look for these things, you're just going to be followers in that industry. I think it's always important to lead with momentum."
