The sudden transition to a largely remote workforce. New deployments of telehealth services to screen and care for patients. Shortages of medical gear ranging from ventilators to personal protective equipment. Overstretched, overstressed and understaffed front-line workers.

What new cybersecurity challenges have these developments and others during the COVID-19 pandemic created? And how are organizations responding?

Information Security Media Group's Healthcare Cybersecurity Virtual Summit, to be held on June 9 and replayed June 10 and 11, will provide answers to these and other timely questions, spelling out best practices and offering strategic insights.

Deep Dives

Among the speakers and panelists at our virtual event are opening keynoter Erik Decker, CISO and chief privacy officer of the University of Chicago Medicine.

Decker is also co-leading a Department of Health and Human Services cybersecurity task group and serves as executive council member of the Healthcare Sector Coordinating Council. He will be presenting on a new HSCC Health Industry Cybersecurity Tactical Crisis Response guidance document focused on helping security organizations to deal with crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a "fireside chat" session, Jennings Aske, CISO of NY-Presbyterian Hospital, which has 10 campuses in New York City and Westchester County, will describe the steps his team has taken in the battle against the outbreak. That includes supporting newly remote employees as well as frontline healthcare workers - including thousands of volunteer nurses and doctors from around the country who stepped up to help in the effort and needed speedy and secure access to patient systems and devices.

Medical Devices, Zero Trust

Also to be featured at the virtual event are panel discussions on medical device cybersecurity amid COVID-19 and zero trust use cases.

Other CISOs who will participate include Daniel Bowden of Sentara Healthcare, Chris Frenz of Interfaith Medical Center, Mitch Parker of Indiana University Health System and Anahi Santiago of ChristianaCare.

Featured security experts will include Bill Hagestad, senior principal product security engineer of medical device maker Medtronic, and Jessica Wilkerson, cyber policy adviser of the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the Food and Drug Administration.

Sharing Lessons

In addition, experts from about a dozen security technology firms and consultancies will share practical strategies and solutions for dealing with challenges involving cloud security, authentication, cybersecurity resiliency and other critical issues.

Please join me and my ISMG colleagues at our virtual event, where you'll have the opportunity to "mingle" with other attendees, speakers and exhibitors via live chat.

While we aim to provide critical insights to help your organization conquer its latest security obstacles, we also look forward to hearing about your dilemmas and lessons learned, as well.
