"You have to know your data. You cannot even figure out the extent of a ransomware event if you don't know what data you have, where it is," and the sensitivity of the information that is affected, she says. "The whole premise about privacy is trust. Organizations need to be able to communicate to their customers that they can be trusted with their data."

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group as part of its RSA Conference 2021 coverage, Daniels also discusses:

  • Navigating the complex patchwork of conflicting state, federal and international privacy-related laws;
  • Top privacy concerns involving COVID-19 contact-tracing apps and vaccination passports;
  • Common data privacy mistakes many organizations make.

Daniels is founder and CEO of Red Clover Advisors, a privacy consultancy that helps startup to Fortune 100 companies achieve regulatory and legal compliance.
