A10's Sanjai Gangadharan Offers Security Strategies for Indian Enterprises
Fighting Application Layer DDoS Attacks

Distributed denial-of-service attacks are increasingly targeting the application layer, rather than the network, which means organizations must build new defensive strategies, says Sanjai Gangadharan of A10 Networks.

"As organizations are adding increasing digital product focus to directly connect with their customers, the potential for security loopholes that can be exploited is also increasing," he says in an exclusive interview with Information Security Media Group. "While things like application delivery and performance have been taken care of, security is a dynamic component that keeps changing."

Because of the increasing risk of attacks, developers must test all applications before they hit production, he stresses.

Security is one of the primary expectations when conducting business, so CISOs and security teams must take the necessary steps to ensure the security of each digital transaction, he adds.

As more enterprises use outsourced service offerings, the dependence on SSL is going up and the legacy infrastructures in place are not able to handle the increasing volume of SSL traffic, he warns.

In this interview (see player below image), Gangadharan outlines some of the security challenges Indian organizations face in dealing with the DDoS threat. He also shares:

  • An overview of challenges in the Indian security landscape;
  • Recommendations for going beyond technology solutions to deal with the DDoS threat;
  • Advice on how to position security as an enabler, rather than a roadblock.

At A10 Networks, Sanjai Gangadharan is regional director for SAARC, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. He has more than 19 years of experience in IT. Gangadharan previously worked at F5 Networks, Palo Alto Networks and several India-based IT companies, giving him a balanced perspective in the workings of both multinational and India-based companies.
